Die Untersuchung fand vor dem Hintergrund der Fragestellung statt, ob Personen mit eigenen Störungen im Essverhalten kompetent sind, eine idealtypische Ernährungsberatung durchzuführen. Dazu wurden ninety Ökotrophologiestudierende sowie 89 Studierende einer Vergleichsgruppe mittels verschiedener Instrumente zur Feststellung von Essstörungen befragt. Parallel fanden Experteninterviews mit Ernährungsberaterinnen statt, um eine professionelle Einschätzung der Problemstellung zu erhalten. Es wurde festgestellt, dass:
-der Wunsch, in der Ernährungsberatung tätig zu werden, eine Motivation für die Aufnahme des Ökotrophologiestudiums ist.
-Ökotrophologiestudierende tendenziell häufiger von gestörtem Essverhalten betroffen sind als Studierende anderer Fachrichtungen.
-das gestörte Essverhalten bereits bei Aufnahme des Studiums besteht und sich nicht im Verlauf entwickelt.
-Studierende mit dem Berufswunsch Ernährungsberatung häufiger gestörtes Essverhalten aufweisen, als Studierende mit anderen beruflichen Absichten.
-eine akute Essstörung ein Hinderungsgrund für eine idealtypische Ernährungsberatung darstellt.
Das Fazit der Arbeit lag darin, schon während des Ökotrophologiestudiums Maßnahmen für den bewussten Umgang mit der Problemstellung zu ergreifen, um Studierende für eine idealtypische Ernährungsberatung zu qualifizieren und sie vor der Entwicklung bzw. dem Rückfall einer Essstörung zu schützen.
